Early Childhood Learning Center Community Analysis

During the spring semester, I had the opportunity to do service learning at the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC), located on the campus of Fayetteville State University. The Early Childhood Learning Center is currently under the leadership of the School of Education on campus and directed by Mrs. Gloria Moore-Carter. The agency not only offers services to the university but to the Fayetteville community as well. From this agency, I was able to offer services to assist the teachers and the students in the classroom I was placed in, and also assistance to administration. The learning center also provides a learning environment that helps young children develop physically, intellectually, socially, and emotionally. The agency has approximately 15 employees and approximately 80-100 children ranging from 6 weeks to 5 years of age of either sex. Children are accepted from any ethnic or religious orientation and any children with mildly handicapping physical and mental conditions. ECLC provides services that offer the following goals to children: 1) Opportunities for social development. 2) Development of good health habits. 3) Opportunity for social development through language music, art, role play, etc. 4) Provide an atmosphere in which a child can succeed. 5) Provide an atmosphere in which creativity is stimulated. 6) Develop a feeling of independence, good work habit, responsibility, and punctuality. 7) To lay foundations for subject matter learning and intellectual growth.
