Have you ever read a story and you were able to imagine what was going on in your head? Ever wonder how it was possible for that to happen? My goal is to analyze the imagery in the short stories of Edgar Allan Poe and the novels of Kristi Cook.I believe that fiction authors are best at using imagery in their stories to bring it alive for the reader. “Imagery is the use of language to evoke a picture or a concrete sensation of a person, a thing, a place or an experience” (Probst, 1194). The reason I choose Edgar Allan Poe is because of his use of imagery in his stories give it that dark and eerie feeling, As well as Kristi Cook because of her use of imagery brought the stories happiness and love along with a hint of darkness. They are similar because they are both mysterious and evil. “My lungs where burning, my throat so tight I could barely breathe as I tried run, but my legs buckled beneath me and I fell to the sidewalk”(Cook,177). This example from Haven shows that the author is trying to give it a sense of danger and freight by showing that she is running away from something with all her might. She uses these words as a way to give a sense of freight through her struggle of running away from the mysterious being. This example of imagery from the text is similar to the example giving from the book Mirage. “I saw the way he looked at her, his eyes rimmed in red and full of bloodlust”(Cook, 21). The author is trying to convey that he has a dark and evil secret, one in which is dangerous to others if he cannot control himself. She uses these words as a way to slowly give you a idea of what and who, he actually is, Along with building the level of freight and suspense to the story for the readers. These stories are similar with the level of suspense and mystery, it opens the level of questions that arise with it. For instances what and who is he really, what or who is she running from.
