Endometriosis is a very painful disorder which the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus grows outside of your uterus. Endometriosis is commonly found and involved with the ovaries, or the tissue that lines your pelvis. The displaced endometrial tissue continues to act as it normally would in endometriosis. The tissue thickens, breaks down and bleeds with each menstrual cycle. Since the displaced tissue has no way of leaving the body, it becomes trapped. Endometriosis can cause extremely painful, sever pain, during a woman's period. It is very rare for endometriosis to form outside of the pelvis. There has been sightings of endometriosis in the liver, brain, lung, and old surgical scars.
