My first response to environmental racism was shock. I knew that modern slavery is still taking place in other countries and that racism still exist in the shadows, but I never noticed the racism that happens right in front of my eyes. During the presentation, we performed a survey about the dirty parts and clean parts of the city which we lived in, Philadelphia. As someone who lived in the South, I can say that the North is significantly more sanitized than in the South. However, I never really thought about how this correlates to the density of African American population.
