Since the Middle ages, Vikings were known as explorers and they would discover new lands. When they would discover a new land, the Vikings would settle there and explore their new land. Some of the lands discovered were by some famous Vikings, one being Erik the red. Not only, did he discover new lands, there were many others that came upon new places. Though, in order to discover, the Vikings would use their well built ships. The ships were outstanding in the way made by the Vikings. His real name is Erik Thorvaldsson, the reason he was nicknamed Erik the Red was because of his red hair and a fiery temper. Erik’s wife converted to Christianity and refused to sleep with her pagan husband(Horwitz). Leif Eriksson was his only son and Freydis was his only daughter. Freydis was known to be like her father because of her red hair and temper. It is said that she was associated with Leif in finding Vinland. One primary reason, being that they discovered several new settlements or lands. In addition to, all those famous leaders, two main ones being Erik the Red and his son Leif Eriksson, that made several discoveries of their own. Also the massive, amazing ships that the Vikings built and that helped them with everything. The Vikings would use them to travel, trade goods to other countries and also raided. Raiding is one of the few things the Vikings did, mostly because they would seek fortune in other places. The reason they would be so successful in their raids was because of the superiority of their ships. If the superiority of their ships is not good, then the raid would not be a success. Nevertheless, from traveling to discovering to raiding other countries, the Viking Age eventually came to an end, leaving behind a great legacy that no person will ever
