As you read the book, Esperanza Rising, you will find that Esperanza goes through many changes in her early teen life. After all that has happened to her in her home country of Mexico, she still has to accept her transition from a wealthy family, to having almost nothing. Even though the transitions she goes through in the book are hard for her, she was still able to make it through, and grow as a person along the way. On the eve of Esperanza’s thirteenth birthday, her father went to go help with the cattle on their ranch. He left early that morning, and was supposed to return before sundown. In order to stay with the family, Esperanza had to pretend that she was cousins with them, but in reality, she was not related to them. They took them to their small house that the owners of the ranch have given them to live in. Everybody that came from Mexico would work except for Esperanza. Esperanza and her mother set up their belongings in the room they were given that they would share with one of the children who already had been living there. The next day everybody went to work while Esperanza stayed home with the the babies to help out. She had to memorize how to take care of them because in the following days, the girl who was helping her would go to school for the whole day and wouldn’t be there to help her. Esperanza tried her best at cleaning the diapers and giving them food that day. She tried her best everyday from then on, proving that she was able to take hold of her responsibilities. She wanted to help make money for the family, so they gave her the job of sweeping up the platform they used for parties. This didn’t give a large salary, but Esperanza still wanted to
