Have you actually looked at the negative effects of banning books? I hear you are planning to ban all “questionable” books from reading lists. In my opinion, I believe you should not ban books with explicit content. First, students will eventually learn about these types of subjects, so why prevent them from learning now? Plus, students most likely will not be influenced to perform bad-mannered activities if they are told it is inappropriate. And above all, if books with disputed content become forbidden from reading curriculums, the students will never be able to learn the lessons books with unsuitable content can teach. As we get older, we get to learn more about the world. Eventually, we end up having knowledge of certain things, such as where babies come from. It is not like it is wrong to have knowledge about the world around us. So, what is wrong with learning bad terms at a certain age? Honestly, why should you, the School Board, prevent students from learning these varieties of behavior? Once students grow up, they will end up learning about rape, war, drugs, and the inappropriate actions of other people anyways. Stories involving these will be on the news, on the internet, pretty much everywhere. So it is either now or later, and there should not be a problem with learning about these type of subjects now. …show more content…
Well, you may be wondering, “What is wrong with teaching the students later?” The problem with that is, once students have become grown up, they believe that they know what is right and what is wrong. If they do not know what is wrong, such as hitting someone, they just may end up doing that without knowing it is the wrong thing to do. They will not have already learned about the consequences to this type of behavior. We should teach pupils about these kinds of actions now, before they end up looking like psychotic
