Medieval hunting was a nobleman’s sport. Kings and lord were mounted on horses while they followed their hounds and chased after sport or game. It was practiced all over the world. It was well established and very popular throughout Europe in the Middle Ages.
Hunters have a few different types of weapons during the pursuit of wild animals. The most commonly used is the bow and arrow. It can cover a longer distance than and blade can, and you usually use a longbow. They’re usually made from yew, is longer than a person is tall, and can shoot 10-12 arrows in a minute. Falconry was once the “sport of kings” and was a favorite pastime of many lords and ladies. It is the elegant art of training falcons to catch smaller birds or animals. It was used in many parts of the world including Europe, China, Persia, and Egypt. It became a chief sport of royalty and nobility and gained a lot of popularity and flourished in the Middle Ages. Royalty had the opportunity to host majestic hunting parties. Peasants, serfs, and all the Medieval Lower Class couldn’t always afford to train the birds. Falconry was a fashionable sport and loved by many lords and ladies.
The falconer must have a lot of patience and determination to train the birds. They use a heavy glove to protect their hand from scratches that the falcon may give to him/her. The falconer also has to put a hood or blindfold over the bird’s eyes to keep it calm. Small bells are put around its neck to locate it in case it gets lost.
