This pressure decreases during intubation hence could lead to a fatal outcome that underscores the importance of pediatric intubation. Additionally, blood volume decreases with age hence pediatrics could suffer from anemia where there is blood loss during intubation, which makes the procedure more harmful than helpful, as it does not serve the intended purpose. Pediatrics have high hemoglobin levels with high affinity for oxygen making it difficult for transfer of oxygen to other body parts. This deficiency is usually compensated at birth where infants tend to have increased hemoglobin levels.
