Who would ever want to have their unalienable rights to be taken away? Unable to choose or protest? Well, that’s what happened to the citizens in the thirteen colonies. The violation of rights was how England snatched away the untouchable rights of colonists. The colonists couldn’t say anything, as their rights, like free speech or choice, were stripped from them by England. The American Revolution was caused by the violation of rights, because of the Townshend Act, the Declaratory Act, and the Declaration of Independence.
The Townshend Act was the tax on all foreign goods. This was a violation of the right to choose. Imported cargo like glass, lead, paper, paint, and tea were all taxed. The colonists led boycotts, but when they started attacking custom officials, the tension jumped. The tension rose even higher when England sent troops to help enforce the act.
