The question of who is most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet can be perplexing. There are many characters in the play by William Shakespeare who wronged Romeo and Juliet. The characters/ pairs that contributed the most to Romeo’s and Juliet’s death are Romeo, Friar Laurence/John, and Count Paris/Lord Capulet. Romeo is responsible for his and Juliet’s death. First, Romeo falls in love with Juliet. In act 1 scene 5, Romeo sneaked into Lord Capulet’s party this plays a factor in their death because if they haven’t met each other at the party, they wouldn’t have resulted in their own death. Second, After Tybalt’s death, Romeo was banished from Verona. In act 3 scene 3 Lords Capulet banished Romeo from Verona. Reason being, Romeo stabbed Tybalt. After Tybalt passed away Paris took Juliet’s hand in marriage. This lead Juliet to drinking the potion Friar Laurence provided. Third, Romeo died from drinking poison from the apothecary. In act 5 scene 3 Romeo went to the apothecary to buy the poison. These actions resulted in Romeo’s and Juliet’s death. …show more content…
Friar Laurence gave Friar John a letter to give to Romeo. In act 5 scene 2, Friar John ran into some problems, he was not able to enter Matua. Which lead to Romeo not getting the letter explaining Juliet’s fake death. Secondly, Balthazar told Romeo Juliet died. In act 5 scene 1, Balthazar saw that Juliet passed away. But he didn’t know that Juliet took a potion, to fall deeply asleep to avoid marrying Paris. Balthazar rushed to Matua to tell Romeo the news. Leaving Romeo devastated.
