When Europeans came to the New World they did not only carry disease but also views and customs that were unfavorable by the natives. Many newcomers had different motives for their arrival induced by political inconsistency, religious persecution, and monetary accumulation.
Europeans carried over the custom regarding land as personal property. The new inhabitants of America saw land to be used for economic gain. Therefore, if land that was not being cultivated for the purpose of monetary advancement it was seen as available. Europeans then saw this land as vacant and that it was needed to make appropriate use of. European settlers assimilated these views concerning land in the New World which consequently led to conflicts with Native Americans.
