All humans are created in the image and likeness of God. Despite one’s culture, race, capacities or incapacities, all humans portray the image of God when displaying acts of love and kindness towards one another. Through the course of the movie I Am Sam, the protagonist of the movie, Sam, portrays an abundant source of genuine love towards his daughter, Lucy, and friends. This demonstrates that despite his mental disabilities, Sam is clearly able to portray the image of God through his acts of affection towards those who surround him in his life. Moreover, the image of God is portrayed in the movie when Sam’s neighbour, Annie, lends a helping hand to the newly single father during Lucy’s early years by taking care of the young girl during the times Sam would have to retreat to his job. Annie continues to portray the image of God when she approaches the stand to defend Sam during his trial, although it proved …show more content…
In the movie, although Lucy was aware of her father’s disabilities, she never gave him the chance to feel that he was different or worth any less than her. For instance. when Lucy’s father was reading her a book that deemed as challenging for him, Lucy immediately understood her father’s difficulty and switched to a book that he was familiar with. Similarly to Lucy, a similar understanding is depicted in the relationship between Sam and his boss at Starbucks Coffee. Though clearly aware that Sam is not as helpful as his regular employees, his boss never once judged him on his incapabilities. Similar to the rest of his employees, he treated Sam equally by providing him with a job and salary, although all he can offer is serving beverages to the customers. Sam’s manager does not judge him for his incapabilities but instead chooses to accept his weaknesses by making use of his given talents which spread a positive environment through the coffee
