Falls have been a special concern for society and older adult. Falls are caused injuries and death for persons of all age, but the risk of falls increases markedly with age. Older adults regardless of where they live, are the most vulnerable group for falls. The risk factors for falls are similar across settings, but inconsistency still exist among facilities due to the nature of population deficits and environmental conditions that differ between settings. The falls are associated with a number of risk factors; history of falls, age- related degenerative disorders, general weakness and impaired balance, pain and psychotic drug use, genital urinary progressive alterations, cognitive impairment, underlying undiagnosed illness and hospitalization further increases risk to mention a few . …show more content…
So, they attribute falls to other group of members of their age group, without thinking to themselves; therefore, they are reluctant to attend or compliant to fall risk education campaigns or regulations. Thus,” fall prevention message are likely to be rejected if the target group associate the message with a negative identity” (Dollard, J. Barton, C. Newbury, J. and Turnbull, 2012, 2617). Older adult who are equal or older than 65 years are likely and severely affected by fall related complications. Such complications could be short or long term. Morbidity, mortality and health care costs. The short term complications that can arise from falls include; skin tears, minor fractures, hematoma, and slight bleeding. Among the long term complications of falls are; severe bleeding that can cause permanent brain damage, subdural hematoma that can damage the bin hence death may even occur. Major fractures also arise that can lead to permanent deformity. Though older adult are more prone to falls, also any group of age can suffer from the above named
