Fido (2006) is an interesting film that is different from the typical zombie apocalypse movie. When I am about to watch a zombie movie I usually expect dull colors, and very serious, monotone dialogue. I also expect rundown cities and abandoned neighborhoods. In this film, the neighborhoods are fully intact, and everyone looks enthusiastic and full of life. Additionally, the movie is bright and full of color, instead of having dull colors.
In my opinion, this film is an allegory on how outside countries view America in general. This film was made in Canada, so the filmmakers might have become inspired by America’s way of life, and decided to portray it on screen form their point of view.

Immigrants are coming over here illegally and are seen as invaders who are making life “unpleasant” for Americans. Now, this is not true for every American out there, but this IS a Canadian film, so that is how it can appear on the outside. After a while, a large Corporation, known as Zomcon, figures out how to turn zombies into slaves, which can be a reference on how immigrants are hired and are given extremely, undesirable, low paying jobs, essentially like a slave. This can be seen today in America, as many citizens still view their country as perfect and the number 1 country, despite the fact that they turn a blind eye to the many horrors that are happening in it. Not all citizens do, but from the outside point of view it can appear that way, due to the media. Which brings me to my next point, which is media manipulation and corruption. In the film, the media covers up all the horrifying things, such as Fido murdering Timmy’s neighbor, and Timmy breaking into Zomcon. This can be an allegory to how American media is notorious for using smokes and mirrors to defy the public and brainwash them into believing something that is not always true or the whole story. The media in the film didn’t want to create a widespread panic and Zomcon didn’t want anyone to see that their collars were faulty, so they used a cover story. That still happens in the media
