In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor, Edward uses figurative language and imagery to express the theme of heroism. In pages 77-86 a sinkhole happens and you can imagine how dangerous it was due to the description but Paul mans up and saves them. On page 81 the passage states “I looked and saw the entire portable being swallowed up by the mud, its roof now where its porch steps should be”. Also you could tell how loud it was because Edward Bloor uses figurative language, but to be more specific he uses an onomatopoeia on page 82 it says “The whooshing was getting louder”.
