The primary concern or crisis in the nursing department as indicated earlier was on management. The department faced the crisis in overloading and distribution of nurses. The two major concerns that I pointed earlier on was on the sudden shifting of nurses from one floor to another. This was due to lack of sufficient staffing in the nursing department. This may also be contributed by lack of proper management strategy. The next crisis was on communication from those in charge of the nurses such as staffing. The nurses were not being given adequate information unto what they should be expected to do when they get floated to another unit. They were solutions offered to solve the problem, but on a closer look, there are some minor adjustments that could be made to make them even more effective. The purpose of this paper is to consider the solution and modify where necessary.
The first proposed solution to the overload problem is to hire more nurses to be in the float pool section. Well, this is a great move in increasing the number of available nurses to help reduce the workload. Having more nurses could be costly but beneficially; it would also provide excellent patient satisfaction. The big problem is in management. With poor management, addition of more nurses will not solve anything, with time other issues will come to light (Chase, 1994). Without the department having strategic management moves challenges like communication will still prevail according to Parsons & Stonestreet (2003).
