All living things are composed of four major biological molecules. These are essential to life as they all have specific important functions. These four macromolecules are: proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and carbohydrates. They all co-exist within a cell to carry out functions and even maintain it's structure. Proteins are vital to the function and structure of a cell and can be found nearly everywhere in the cell. This is because proteins carry out a variety of functions including, transporting things in and out of the cell membrane, speeding up chemical reactions, protecting against diseases, storing amino acids, facilitating movement, regulating activities within the cell, and providing support.
