The Latino culture has very strong ideas of the masculine and feminine image, with the specific expectations of each gender identity. This results in many merely playing the role of their given identity or less frequently against it. Each gender identity is structured by the society along with their expected characteristics, which are taken on through observational learning. Not everyone relates to, nor follows, their given gender identity as they are expected to. This creates tension and sometimes rejection towards those outside the norms. Violence is often an outcome toward those who stray away from what is expected of them, which often lies true for the minority gender, women, and those belonging to The Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Latinidad community. Due to the conflict in beliefs between the sexual orientation and ethnic background LGBTQ Latinidad members, can face various difficulties that could lead into mistreatment from themselves, their families, and the surrounding world. The movie, All About my Mother, tells the story of a mother who lost her seventeen-year-old son in a car accident. Still in grief of her loss, she goes on a quest to find the father of her son, who knew nothing about her pregnancy. Throughout the movie characters are introduced and are not who they first appear to be. The father turns out to be a transvestite named Lola and unlike in the real world this fact was not a problem.
