The book Ghost Boys follows a concept in literature called the Hero’s Journey and has specific stages like the call to Adventure, Allies and the reward that will be explained later in the text.

In the first part, our main character Jerome goes on a call to adventure. The Call to Adventure is when the main character has something happen to them that makes them realize that he or she has to do more in life and they have an adventure. The Call to Adventure happens when Jerome is going to have to go on a journey to find a way to move on from being shot and into the afterlife.
