The late 1800s were mainly shaped by America’s growing industrialism and advancements in technology, transportation, and production efficiency. While this benefited America’s economy and big business, it overshadowed the social problems becoming more prominent in people’s everyday lives like women and African American rights, treatment of low- class workers, corrupt politics and business practices, and the conditions of those in poverty, thus earning the name Gilded Age.
