The two articles, “Gladiator University,” and “Did gladiators always fight to the death?,” have changed how people today think about gladiators and the ancient romans. Readers see the new evidence which changes what we used to think happened in and outside the arena. Based on the information we had before our recent discoveries we believed that many gladiators were criminals, slaves and prisoners of war. But, there were also professional gladiators or volunteers. Recent discoveries have shown that our past theories based on what we did find on gladiators were not exactly correct. We knew that gladiators had three meals a day and had a place to sleep at night. This gladiator school happens to be the first gladiator school found outside of ancient Rome. In the beginning of paragraph three it is stated that, “The researchers discovered the school in 2011 at the site of the ancient city of Carnuntum.” So this discovery is one of the more recent ones that we have found. The last sentence in paragraph states, “The gladiators used weapons such as swords, spears, and daggers.” which has also changes what we used to think happened in the arena. Paragraph seven and eight states, “The newly discovered school in Austria was two stories high. A courtyard in the center housed a practice arena. It had heated floors for winter training, plumbing, hospitals, and a graveyard nearby.At least 80 gladiators lived and trained year-round at the school. They slept in 32-square- foot cells, with one or two people per cell. The cells were separate from a wing with bigger rooms, where their trainers slept.” This changes what we thought about their living conditions. With the new discoveries, we have a lot to take in when it comes to what we used to
