On April 20, 2010, a disaster hit the Gulf Coast. An oil rig known as Deep Water Horizon, and operated by BP Deep water Horizon exploded taking eleven workers with it. The rig exploded spilling oil into the ocean, from three major cracks in the rig. The damage was a ruptured deep water pipeline, one mile beneath the surface of the ocean. Due to the pipe line being so deep, for 22 days it was not contained. After 64 days, the oil spill was partially contained , and on July 15, 2010 it was capped off. During the 87 days of the oil spill, the world watched as the oil mixed into the ocean. From live camera underwater and being positioned only a few feet from the wellhead that was damaged.
