The Harlem Renaissance gave way to many influential writers of American Literature. Much like the decade of the Hip Hop Resistance. In both the majority of the lyrics and writings were based on the sufferings of the minorities along with political racism. This article discuses many of the front men of what we call todays Hip Hop and what they went through to make it in a society that viewed their artistic way a threat to the country. Much like the early twentieth century when the great writers in the Harlem Renaissance went through the same scrutiny.

Like the words from 2Pac in the song Can’t C Me “I am in the flesh baby, but you Can’t C Me. Both artist talked of the same thing how they were overlooked when in the society that was outside their communities with people like them. The racism is expressed in both writings about how minorities are seen and ignored or chosen not to be seen altogether, but these two expressions were all but unseen. Both artist caught the attention of the Federal government and were scrutinized for every piece of work they produced. Maybe they felt they were invisible or couldn’t be seen by the majority of the population, but in fact it was completely the opposite. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the USA has a long history of targeting black American political activists, amongst others, and through the notorious “COINTELPRO” program surveilling hundreds of black, Latino and American Indian activists during the 1960s and 70s.The Government felt so strong that this artist had such an influence on the populations with such strong words that they decided to have an organization dedicated solely for the purpose of surveillance of the black and minority artist with strong political views.
