In “Harrison Bergeron” everyone was very obviously not treated as equal as intended to. While average people aren't required to where handicaps, people with advantages are forced to wear them; this simple fact is proving inequality. The handicaps also hurt the people with advantages which isn’t equal because people without advantages don't have to wear them so they don't get hurt.

“George while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little handicap radio in his ear.He was required by law to wear it at all times” (page 1).Solely because George has above average intelligence he is required by law to where a handicap to move him back down to an average level. This implies people who already have average intelligence are not required to wear a handicap. The literal meaning of handicap is act as an impediment to.“George winced.so did two out of the eight ballerinas.Hazle saw him wince.Having no mental handicap herself, she had to ask George what the latest sound had been”(page 2).Because George winced, it implied he was hurting or uncomfortable, and Hazle had to ask him what the sound was because she doesn't have a handicap. This further proves people are not equal because only two out of the eight ballerinas winced as George did.Which means two out of eight have a handicap and are unequal to the other six.
