The life of Harrison Truman all started in the the year of 1884 on May 8 in Lamar, Missouri. He was named in honor of his maternal uncle, Harrison Young. It took a month for his parents to decide on his middle name and they ended up with the letter “S” as a tribute for his grandfathers Solomon Young and Anderson Shipp Truman. The parents of Harry were John Anderson Truman and Martha Ellen Truman. John Anderson Truman was a farmer and mule trader and Martha Ellen Truman was a stay at home wife. Harry was the first born out of the three children John and Martha had. Harrison had a brother and sister and there names were Vivian Truman and Mary Jane Truman. On June 28, 1919 Harry married his sweetheart Bess Wallace in Independence in Bess’s church, the Trinity Episcopal. The couple was married for 53 years, five months, and 28 days. They had one child by the name of Margaret Truman. She was born on February 17th or 1924. Harrison had a very busy life. He was elected to the United States Senate in 1934. His first term, he served on the senate appropriations committee. Senator Burton Wheeler and Harry started investigating railroads in 1940 that Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal project and Interstate Commerce Committee which over looked railroads. Truman ran for the second time for re election in 1940 and many predicted he would result in defeat. Harry was picked as vice president in November 1944 because of his popularity, his actions as a responsible man, and defender of citizens rights took oath on January 20th, 1945. After eighty-two days in office Roosevelt pasted from a massive stroke. Truman took over as president on April 12th, 1945. In the first six months in office he announced the German’s surrender, dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki that ended World War 2 and signed the charter ratifying the United Nations.
