Hatch is a village in southern New Mexico with a population of about 1,648 people according to the Village of Hatch website. Hatch is located in Dona Ana County. It is about 45 minutes north of Las Cruces. It is known as the Chile Capital of the World and, for this reason, it is a widely known amongst other areas in the U.S. When visiting Hatch it was extremely clear that the main source of employment in this area is agriculture. The outskirts of the village are acres upon acres of farmland. There are many onion sheds and chile plants in the area that serve as temporary employment for people in the summer and fall seasons. One is called the Village Market and the other Jim’s Supermarket. Here you can find everything you would need. There are no food banks in this area that are available. In the supermarkets there is fresh produce and fresh meat available with a meat market in each store. Hatch has an elementary school, middle school, and high school. So the children of the Village of Hatch are schooled in the community. There are children from other communities that are bused to Hatch to attend school there. Children get bused from about 3 communities and these include Garfield, Rhode, and Placitas. Each is about a 10-15 minute drive from Hatch. Although it is small hatch has a public library and has four computers available to the public. It has a selection of Spanish books. I was very impressed with the library itself as well as the book selection they had to offer. It is a nice place for people to go work on homework or just read in complete silence. The nearest health care facility is Ben Archer Center, which is located in Hatch. It is both a medical clinic and dental clinic. This is good because people do not have to travel outside of their hometown to have access to health care. The closest hospital would be in Las
