Coming from experience, I would have to mail, fax, and copy and send out medical records out to lawyers, other physicians, insurance companies, government agencies, and even the patients themselves. Most patients had their medical release form signed already and it made my job easier, but for the ones that did not was hard. Jeff Byers states, “Federal privacy guidelines for more complicated models of HIE, for example, retrieving a patient’s health data from multiple sources with a single query, have yet to be created.” (Byers, 2011)
Benefits of having HIE
To help track and secure patients records, more and more providers are using a HIE system that can help each party involved receive the upmost correct data regarding the patient in a timely fashion. If the system finds duplicate items it will only send one of the records or at least the most current and up to date one in its file. It helps with coordinating patient care which can help with not making mistakes in their files. Here are a few benefits that are helping the HIE and they are as follows: 1.
