Henry Ford was the first surviving child of his parents William and Mary Ford. He was raised on his family’s farm in Dearborn, Michigan. At the age of sixteen, he left the family farm and traveled to Detroit, where he studied under a machinist as an apprentice. After three years, he returned to the farm but while in Dearborn he continued to work on steam engines. In 1888, he married Clara Bryant, in the first years of their marriage he ran a sawmill. In 1891, he was hired by “Edison Illuminating Company” where he rose quickly, and became a chief engineer.
