High Stakes Testing Video Analysis

The High Stakes Testing video was somewhat difficult to follow. I think the speaker had good points but was a bit anxious and needed to organize his thoughts and manage his time better. Overall the High Stakes Testing video had useful information that is valid and controversial today. As an educator for about 10 years, and being a product of public schools, I know all too well about standardized testing. Taking standardized tests when I was a student appeared to be a yearly ordeal, because as I would enter a new grade it seemed that the school system would decide to make that year also another year of mandatory testing. I was fortunate in that I was able to excel in school and do well during testing. As a teacher, I feel I’m lucky in that, I teach a required elective, and do not have some of the responsibilities that core teachers do. I see the other teachers that teach core classes, buckle under the pressure of getting their students ready for the test that is coming up. I see them going to meetings, professional development, and maliciously dissecting data to try to figure out who needs more help than others and what exactly that …show more content…
I’ve personally had to get a nurse to come help calm a student down who was having a panic attack because of the pressure of the standardized test. I also feel for those students that truly studied, went to after school testing, and used other resources and still came up short. I feel it is unfair to them because outside factors are not taken into consideration. Factors like the students home life, mental health, physical wellbeing and other factors are never considered into their score for the test. Personally I’ve had many students show up to the test hungry, upset over something that happened yesterday at school or the night before from home, cold or worried about something outside of their
