“Hills Like White Elephants”, by Ernest Hemingway, is a short with a man and a woman discussing an operation. Most of the story takes a place dialogue between the two characters, the American and Jig. This couple is at a critical point. They must decide whether or not to have an abortion. At the ending of the story, it finishes negatively for the girl and the author doesn’t suggest any solution to her because Hemingway completely removes himself from the story and leaves the end readers’ imagines.

Everything in the story shows that the man definitely wants the girl to have an abortion. From his earlier statements, it is obvious that he does not want the responsibility of baby. We faced his dominant decision "I think it's the best thing to do. But I don't want you to do it if you don't really want to.” When he says, "If you don't want to you don't have to. I wouldn't have you do it if you didn't want to," he is not persuading the girl but he is persistent on his opinion.

He is using his logic to convince her. Without baby, they can continue their travel as a free people. They can "have everything." The Girl doesn’t agree him and she things with or without the abortion, things will never be the same. For all his efforts, she looks the situation emotionally and doesn’t want to give up from her baby.

Besides, the operation which is called “perfectly simple” and “little air in” by the American may damage her emotionally and physically. that she is overwhelmingly tired of talking on the same subject and upset of his inconsiderate; that’s why she wants to end talking. At the end, he is asking “Do you feel better?” She is saying” There is nothing wrong with me. I feel fine” She want to emphasize her opinion is normative, and she means if something is wrong, it is not about me; it is about
