Pouring of the Holy Spirit in the second chapter of Acts is a real history as it was written in the Bible for many witnesses’ testimonies. Many people believed that the manifestation of the Holy Spirit was an one-time event in the Christian history and it has stopped, specially in modern societies where technology highly developed. The Holy Spirit, however, never stopped working in the history and burst among the students of Chares Fox Parham in 1901. Ronald A. N. Kydd describes “Extraordinary things began to happen […] students began to speak in tongues” (Kydd, p. 232). Parham spread out what he experienced and William Joseph Seymour, African-American preacher in Holiness circle, heard and accepted this message (Kydd, p. 232). He began to …show more content…
It is the most rapidly grown in Christian denominations. It is also, in my opinion, the services in this denomination are the most aggressive among other denominations which gives vivid dynamic to the Christian services and activities. Dancing and jumping in worshipping God may be one example of many others. Prophesising, healing, calling to follow Jesus Christ ministries were part of their regular services. I am very impressed about his notion of equality in race and gender, indeed, the Holy Spirit does not discriminate anyone because of the race or the gender or the age or the health conditions. He gives strength to a faithful son or daughter of God and helps to achieve God’s mission through him or her. Seymour’s leadership was sensational from our point of view; however, it was not acceptable in some ways at the moment where Kydd says “Azusa was ahead of its time, particularly in its inclusive views on race and gender” (Kydd, p. 239). Parham turned back from Seymour after he visited and saw all black and whites are worshipping God together and Clara Lum, who was in charge of The Apostolic Faith left Seymour with the lists of the subscribers. These made Seymour got weak in his heath and Azusa Street Revival was shrinking rapidly. It is irony that Seymour betrayed by different race and
