It's the final play of the game a base hit is bringing home a runner. He circles 3rd base and runs full speed toward home plate. The catcher receives the ball he wants to cover the plate, but a new rule is preventing him to do so. The catcher misses the tag and the runner is safe. This is why home plate collisions should be put back in. Home plate collisions should be put back in the M.L.B. because it is entertaining, it was in the game ever since the sport stated and should not be changed, it lowers the average score, and could add more fans.
Before this new rule was put into effect runners could tackle the catcher who was blocking the plate, if the catcher held on to the ball the runner is out. Watching runner crash into catchers is very fun to watch and could bring more fans to the sport. It takes out the the excitement and the anticipation for a collision to possibly happen. It was a big part of baseball and taking it out is a mistake. applying a new rule and everyone would just follow, not with a rule as non-traditional as this awkward slides at home at times even seeing runners slide on their knees because they were so indecisive as to what to do on a close play at home. Rule 7.13.1 -- "A runner attempting to score may not deviate from his direct pathway to the plate in order to initiate contact with the catcher."say you cannot ever make contact with the catcher, it says that a runner cannot go out of his way in an attempt to make contact with the catcher.
