Ancient Greece
Greece is in Southeastern Europe along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the oldest nations in Europe. Greek history goes back over 2000 years. The classical period of ancient Greece begins 480 BC to 323 BC. During this historical period the Peloponnesian War between Sparta and Athens begin, Athens was ruled by democracy, and it ended with the rise of Alexander the Great. Ancient Greece made a major influence on the development of Western civilization in such areas as Theater/Drama, Sports, and Medicine.
Theater was one of the favorite entertainments of the Ancient Greeks. Theater started being a part of a festival to the Greek God Dionysus, which now has become a major part of the Greek culture. There open-air theaters were built in a semi-circle around the main stage with tiered seating for over 10,000 people. The seating allowed the actors' voices to be heard throughout the entire theater. Music would company the plays with the chorus in front of the stage singing together during the play. Sometimes the chorus would participate in the play warning the hero about potential danger or making comments toward the characters in the play. They were the first to start the Olympic Games in 776 B.C. Their legacy continues to this day in the modern-day Summer and Winter Olympic Games held every 4 years in different parts of the world with thousands of athletes participating from over 200 nations. It is estimated around 4 billion plus people around the world watch some part of the games. I watch them too. I enjoy seeing the competition. Hippocratic stated the important of good nutrition to the athletes because it would help their performance in the Olympic Games. I do agree with Hippocratic to have your mind and body in balance with each other good nutrition and exercising is needed to try to prevent illnesses and
