Coal was the ideal for energy in early America. In American the only way to produce energy was through coal, oil, or water. These types of energy were used to power houses, create heat, and was used in businesses. This was soon going to change because America was rapidly changing and adapting to new ideas and discoveries, to improve America. One discovery that made America better was electricity. The creation of electricity made America better because it improved the economy, it created jobs, and it made the citizens life in America more enjoyable.

There were many new electrical inventions that made American life more enjoyable. One invention was the radio. The radio provided entertainment to people and were called “radio music box” (Craig, 2005) The radio allowed for sport games to be broadcast and music to be listened to. Newspaper turned their attention to the radio and provided information about programs and other information and by 1937 over 80 percent of families had radios (Craig, 2005). This allowed people to enjoy entertainment and music programs at home and with friends. Another way that electricity made Americans life more enjoyable was that it connects the Americans to their government. During President Franklin Roosevelt presidency, he had radio chats called fireside chats that were speeches “that gave Roosevelt a chance to explain and defend his New Deal policies” (Latson, 2015). Even though they were to be informative they were soothing, frank, and down-to-earth. According to Latson (2015), one women wrote to Roosevelt “The broadcast brought you so close to us, and you spoke in such clear concise terms, our confidence in the Bank Holiday was greatly strengthened”. With her statement, you can clearly see that the “Fireside” chats greatly intertwined and drew the people to the government as made their lives more enjoyable especially during hard times..
