How Did Winston Come To Power In George Orwell's 1984?

In the story of 1984 it tells the story of a man named Winston. Winston is an older

man that lives in an oppressive state called oceania. This is a state modeled after the

Soviet Union, the leader is a man by the name of Big Brother. Winston questions the

party and it's way of operation, in this society that is a severe crime that could be

punishable by death. Winston could not have been the only person to see the faults and

question the party. People could realize the faults in the state and could organize a

revolution to crush the party. Big brother or other inner party members could also

possibly push to reform. Finally the thought police or military could organize a coup of

They are not as closely monitored as the

regular citizens so the police could not intervene as easily. Once they rise up they could

start change other people's minds and reverse the brainwashing.

Parties can also change in the governing, the Soviet Union fell because of inner

party reform. In the Soviet Union leaders realized that communism was not viable to

have a successful nation. It's is possible that Big Brother or his successor would

institute reforms because he fears the government cannot sustain itself. However this

can be a slow process and may take several years. Also the party may keep many of

their aspects of their governing. However, as seen with other countries it would be possible that the state could completely change.

Another way I can see the party falling is through a coup through a military or

thought police. In many countries coups have been carried out some successful and

some not. The thought police and or the military of Oceania could realize how immoral

the government is and revolt against the party. However after these coups it mostly

results in a military state that can at times be authoritarian, but not as bad as
