If it wasn’t for the brave Canadian soldiers, leaders or the price Canadians paid through sacrifice, Canada would not be the united nation that it is today. Although the Great War resulted in thousands of deaths, explosions and the Great Depression, Canada fought a long and tough battle to create the prideful country that Canadians are fortunate enough to call home. One of the most important results of the First World War was that women gained equality, voting and working rights. Along with these rights and freedoms, new technology was created which changed the war drastically in the sense that many more young men wanted to join and be a part of the Canadian Military. The economy was greatly affected from the war and several methods were implemented to decrease this war debt. The actions of the First World War changed the lives of Canadians forever and Canada emerged as a proud and victorious country. Over 60,000 Canadians were killed on the battlefield in the act of protecting their country and their home. Many explosions took place as a result of this war, one of which was the Halifax Harbour explosion which took the Christmas away from children and their families in 1917. This was the event that brought the war home to Canada and the deaths that followed were a result from this major event. Despite the Great War resulting in many losses, Canada found pride in their success in the Vimy, Passchendaele and 2nd Ypres battles. These battles were only successful because of the persistence and perseverance of the Canadian Military. These successes were known as the ‘high points’ of the war which resulted in Canada regaining their confidence after the other battle attempts previous to those had
