Do you think John Proctor is an honorable man? I do, continue to read to find out my reasoning. I believe that Arthur Miller wrote John Proctor to be a dishonorable man in the beginning of the play, but then changed John to be a honorable man in the end. John Proctor is a honorable man because he is brave, loyal. and has pride. John Proctor is an honorable man because he admitted to the affair with Abigail. I think that admitting to the affair with Abigail shows that John Proctor is brave. Admitting to the affair was a critical moment in the play. This shows that John Proctor is brave because admitting this to the court he knew that it would soil his good name in the town. To me this shows that he is brave because he is willing to soil his good name to try and get Abigail convicted of lying to the court about the whole trials and killings. John Proctor says “Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave my name!” This shows that Proctor has pride because the only thing he has left is his name. This also shows that John Proctor is loyal because he wouldn’t sign his name because then he would live while his friends would die for telling the truth. I think that this shows complete loyalty to his friends and to himself. He will not let his friends die for telling the truth, So he doesn’t sign his name and has pride and is
