“Human nature can be modified to some extent, but human nature cannot be changed”-by Abraham Lincoln. Lord of the Flies is a novel written by William Golding, which purpose is to emit the true nature of human beings. A novel which advanced quickly from innocent young children craving for a mother's touch to barbaric killing savages. Many of the events throughout the novel lead many critics to believe that Golding’s main themes are that there is no hope for mankind, or evil is an inborn trait of mankind. The actions of the characters such as Jack, Piggy and Ralph lead many others to believe the same things as well, but the circumstances in which a person is play a major contribution to the outcome of a person.
Throughout the years mankind has evolved immensely, coming along way from the Stone Age and the hunting and gathering ways. The setting in which the boys found themselves was completely different from their wooden and brick houses, cars, television and even parents, they were thrown back in time. They landed in an island which showed no sign of human life and to their disadvantage they possessed nothing but their minds and bodies. All the events that occur lead to the worst and darkest places of a person even when everything is well organized and it is believed nothing can happen that can brake oneself the darkness always finds a way inside a person. No matter what we do where, we hide, where we go, evil is there. It only takes a second or a single person to turn things into the worst possible scenario just like in Golding’s novel.
