I am Legend, directed by Francis Lawrence is a movie about the spread of the Krippin virus in New York City. The movie is set in a post-apocalyptic New York after the deadly Krippin virus has made the citizens to lose control of themselves and has caused them to become mutated people (darkseekers). The main character Robert Neville is immune to the virus and is the only normal human left in the city. Robert and his dog Samantha (Sam) spend each day traveling through the streets of the city trying to find a cure. The main settings in the movie are the central city, the pier and the lab. These themes connect not only to the movie but also to the outside world. The theme of survival is not just shown through hunting but is also shown through people working to earn money. People who work do so to survive because most of the necessities that you need to live on have to be bought. Food needs to be bought from the supermarket just like clothes need to be bought from the store. In the movie the theme of hope is shown at the pier where Robert hopes for un-mutated people to still be out there.Hope applies in the outside world because Everyone has dreams. Dreams that people hope to one day come true. People have hope in at least one thing whether it be a future career or the good health of a loved one. Sacrifice is a big theme in the movie and is also a very big part of life. People sacrifice a lot in everyday life and it is something that everyone goes through at some point. For example some people are forced to have jobs that they don’t like, but need to earn money to support their families. This movie has taught me that if you love something and are committed to it you should put everything you’ve got into
