Water freezing and melting is key for life on earth. For example, without melting then you can’t never make a piece of ice turn into water again. Another reason is if water couldn’t freeze then then the animals that live in very cold places and need places to stand where there isn’t land wouldn’t be able to live there. Without ice freezing then there wouldn’t be ice bergs. Ice bergs are very important to the carbon cycle. Icebergs actually affect the eco-system. Ice bergs dilute the ocean of water and pass through and distribute carbon-dioxide and absorbing phytoplankton in the ocean.
