The Romans innovation and invention was very significant considering the fact that it was thousands of years ago. Technology in the Roman Empire thrived with multiple great forms of architecture and culture advances. The Romans had multiple technological advances but a few of the most remarkable advances during their era consisted of building clean water systems called Aqueducts, building great long roads, constructing the first effective arches and also publishing newspapers. The Romans engineered a way to provide the city with clean water in a structure called the Aqueducts. Due to Rome’s large population at this time, this invention was very significant. The aqueducts were large bridge like structures that were slanted towards the city to allow clean water to flow from reservoirs. Stone pipes were buried underground and that’s how the water would flow into the city. Clean water was used in ways that are very similar to modern day civilization. The Romans had large public baths, toilets or latrines, and water fountains to drink from. Aqueducts also served as a sewage system to export the dirty water from the city to nearby bodies of water. After realization of this great technological advance, other cities in the empire started constructing aqueducts and eventually over time there was hundreds in the empire. The Romans cannot take credit for the invention of roads, however, they can take credit for having the most complex roads in western civilization. The Romans would make their roads out of granite, hardened volcanic lava, and dirt. The roads the Romans built spread out thousands and thousands of miles throughout the empire. Since the empire was so large, roads made for communicating throughout the empire helped maintain the empire and allowed for expansion.
