Individualism In Ayn Rand's Anthem

Everyone changes either if they are forced to or it just happens, but it is never allowed in the society of the book Anthem. If nobody thinks the same as you it is not true, and you are a disgrace if you think otherwise, at least that’s how it is in the novel Anthem. These changes when Equality 7-2521 takes a stand and finds the true meaning of individualism with the help of a few people along the way. Assuming the Transgressor of the unspeakable word never looked at him, he would had never thought about what that word was that could not be spoken and that was when his fight began. Even when Equality knows all the punishments for keeping things to himself, he still decides to go on, so he can prove others wrong.
The transgressor of the unspeakable word started the entire journey to find the meaning of individualism. This is when Equality felt his duty to find what individualism is even though he does not know what that word even means. "What – even if we have to burn for it like the Saint of the pyre – what is the Unspeakable Word" (Rand 51)? After seeing the Transgressor, he knows that he will be punished if he finds out that living a more self-taught life could end up costing his life. ““Street Sweeper.” We felt the cords of our neck grow tight as our head rose higher to look upon the faces of the Council, and we were happy” (Rand 26). Truly Equality was not happy he just did not know how to specify his feelings and happiness was the only thing that he knew which to express. The expression that the book describes shows that Equality was upset when his neck tightened because who’s neck does that when they are happy. On the occasion that equality knew how to dignify his feelings he would probably outrage since he can no longer think the unthinkable thoughts that everybody else is turned away
