What is Autism?

Autism is also called Autism spectrum disorder or ASD. It is a mental condition that causes trouble creating relations and communication skills and repetitive activity interest. Scientists are still not certain about what causes autism but they do believe that it is very likely that both environment and genetics play a part. Researchers identified a number of genes associated with the disorder. Studies show irregularities in several regions of the brain. It is estimated to cost $17,000 dollars or more a year to care for a child with ASD. It affects about 1 in 68 children according to CDC’s Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network. It is also considered to be five times more common in boys

Doctors recommend having regular check-ups, eat healthy, exercise, and take all necessary vitamins while you are pregnant. Do not take any drugs unless prescribed by your doctor. Do not drink alcoholic beverages. Getting a rubella immunization and treatment if you have been diagnosed with PKU or Celiac disease. The earlier Autism is detected and treated the better the prognosis will be. People with Autism are still capable of living a normal life expectancies. With early intervention and with appropriate treatments someone with Autism can function productively and attain some independence. Some people with Autism will always require lifelong assistance. I know people personally who are affected by Autism. They do however live nice lives although they require living assistance that will be life-long. They both have severe cases and take lots of medications and therapies. They also attend daily programs to help them with their independency levels. They have very odd behaviors consisting of repetitive activities, self-injury behaviors, and they both are very particular about their schedules. Simple things such as a change in their schedule can send them into bad behavior and really cause high stress levels within themselves. I believe Autism is not as recognized as other disorders but in fact is affecting lots of our children. I also believe that one day scientist and doctors will find more information on Autism that will help with treating people that are affected with this
