Persepolis is the story of a girl who grew up during the Iranian Revolution. Marji was just twelve at the beginning of the war. She lived with her mother and father, and she was an only child. Her parents would regularly attend demonstration in support of revolutionaries against the Iranian regime. Lots of big changes were being made in their country at the beginning of Marji’s teen years. Boys and girls started attending separate schools and women were forced to wear veil in public. Marji was following in the footsteps of her parents and uncle to being quite rebellious and wanting to be an activist to make a difference in the world. She would often get in trouble at school for speaking out and wearing things that were forbidden. Her Uncle
