The Jacksonian era occurred roughly from Andrew Jackson's election, in 1828 to the slavery predicament after the American Civil in 1854. In this era many Americans were either opponents of Jackson, who despised his authorial decisions, or followers of his actions. Jackson who his followers believed he “embodied all that was good and right about the American Republic” (Watson 9) and “a vainglorious nobody without qualifications for public office” by his despisers (Watson 9).
