The title refers to something that may be expensive, yet pretty useless. The title in reference to the story could mean how the two of them live their life is pretty expensive while being useless because it may not be fulfilling. However, it could also represent something of beauty. The man sees the elephants as being useless while the woman sees them as beauty. The title is a symbol of the child that Jig is bearing.
