Jim Crow Policing Summary

In the article “Jim Crow Policing”, Bob Herbert describes why the New York City Police Department should be restrained. Statistics are presented to show the facts of how policing affects varying races differently. Ultimately the main point is to display that whites are treated better, and more fairly, than any other race. “Not everyone who is stopped is frisked. When broken down by ethnic group, the percentages do not at first seem so wildly disproportionate. Some 59.4 percent of all Hispanics who were stopped were also frisked, as were 56.6 percent of blacks, and 46 percent of whites.” (Bob Herbert) By proven fact, it is easy to see that whites, overall, are treated with more respect.
