Jim Crow Policing, Bob Herbert describes is when police stop and search people just because they happen to be Black, Hispanic, or another ethnic group. He states this is a major issue in New York City. After reading over his article I happen to agree with him that this style of law enforcement is unconstitutional, disrespectful, and harassing to the many citizens that happen to be a minority, but are not doing anything wrong in order to be searched and questioned.

Some people think the police are only doing this because those are the people who sell drugs and posses weapons. This could not be more false. There are countless stories of innocent minority men and women being stopped, questioned and searched for no other reason than the color of their skin. As stated in the Jim Crow Policing essay, 1.6 of the police stops were of black citizens, 1.5 were hispanic and 2.2 were white.(Herbert) This alone shows that citizens of minority races are

Redditt Hudson, a former police Officer recalls an event when there was a call to a house and when they arrived, a young boy answered the door. Reddit recalled, “ .. that officer accused him of harboring a robbery suspect and she demanded he let her in...he refused...the officer yanked him by his throat and began punching him.” It is of no surprise to most that this boy was later dragged to the car by his ankles after he stated he couldn't walk. The officer thought he was being defiant, but it was later found out that he had been handicapped and wheelchair- ridden since birth. It is also of no surprise that the boy was of a minority race and no future connection was ever made with the supposed robber.
