John Hancock
John Hancock was a patriot who was born on January 23, 1737. He was born in present day Quincy, Massachusetts. His father died when he was seven, he went to live with his aunt and uncle in Boston. When his uncle died John inherited his wealthy import-export business. In 1765 John was elected the Boston selectman. A year later in 1766 he was elected the Massachusetts colonial legislature. During the Revolutionary war, John Hancock was a rebel rouser. One of the things he did was organize protests against taxation. After the war, he was the first governor of Massachusetts and was re-elected in 1787 and served until he died on October 8, 1793. In the war he was a very rebellious figure.
